Barcelona have taken a major step towards signing Borussia Dortmund forward Karim Adeyemi after reaching an agreement on personal terms with the Germany international.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports that Adeyemi has informed Borussia Dortmund he only wants to join Barcelona this summer, while the Spanish champions have already submitted an official offer to begin negotiations with the Bundesliga club.
The 24-year-old has entered the final year of his contract at Dortmund and is not expected to sign an extension, making this summer the club’s best opportunity to cash in on one of its most explosive attacking talents.
Although Barcelona and the player have reached a verbal agreement, the two clubs have yet to agree on a transfer fee.
Reports suggest Barcelona’s opening proposal is below Dortmund’s valuation, with negotiations continuing as both sides attempt to bridge the gap. Dortmund are believed to value Adeyemi at around €40 million (£34.5m), while Barcelona are trying to complete the deal for a lower figure.
Adeyemi has long been admired by Barcelona boss Hansi Flick, who handed the winger his senior Germany debut and is said to have personally approved the move. The Catalan club view his blistering pace, direct running and versatility across the front line as ideal qualities to strengthen their attack ahead of the new season.
Barcelona’s pursuit comes as the club continues an ambitious recruitment drive. Having already strengthened their squad this summer, the Blaugrana remain keen to add further attacking depth, with Adeyemi now emerging as one of their leading targets.
For Dortmund, losing Adeyemi would represent a significant blow, but the German side face the prospect of seeing him leave for free next year if no agreement is reached before his contract expires in 2027.
With the player committed to a move to Camp Nou, attention now turns to negotiations between the two clubs as Barcelona attempt to complete another high-profile signing before the new season begins.
