Everton could be handed a renewed opportunity to sign Atletico Madrid striker Alexander Sorloth after negotiations over his proposed move to Juventus reportedly slowed down.

The Norwegian international had appeared destined for Turin after agreeing personal terms with the Serie A giants. However, Juventus have yet to reach an agreement with Atletico Madrid over a transfer fee, leaving the door open for rival clubs to revive their interest.

David Moyes is keen to strengthen his attacking options this summer, and Sorloth remains one of the experienced forwards admired at Goodison Park. Everton have previously been linked with the 30-year-old, and fresh reports in Spain suggest the Premier League club remain in the conversation alongside Newcastle United and Fulham.

Sorloth’s first experience of English football with Crystal Palace was disappointing. He failed to score in the Premier League during his spell at Selhurst Park, making just 20 appearances before rebuilding his career with successful spells in Turkey, Germany and Spain.

Since leaving Palace, the Norway international has transformed into one of Europe’s most reliable goalscorers. After prolific campaigns with Trabzonspor, Real Sociedad and Villarreal, he joined Atletico Madrid in 2024 and has continued to impress under Diego Simeone, becoming one of the club’s leading attacking threats.

Everton believe Sorloth’s difficult first spell in England should not overshadow the player he has become.

The Toffees are searching for a proven goalscorer who can add experience to Moyes’ frontline, while also helping accelerate the development of young striker Thierno Barry.

Despite standing 6ft 5in, Sorloth is far more than a traditional target man. His mobility, intelligent movement and ability to drift into wide areas have become key features of his game, making him a versatile attacking option capable of operating across the front line.

With almost 500 senior appearances and well over 170 career goals, Sorloth would also bring invaluable experience to Everton’s youthful attack.

His upcoming World Cup quarter-final against England could further increase interest from Premier League clubs. Spanish reports suggest the match will provide another opportunity for English sides to assess whether the striker is ready for a second spell in the division after his remarkable resurgence abroad.

For now, Juventus remain in talks with Atletico Madrid, but the lack of an agreement means Everton’s hopes are still alive.

Should negotiations continue to stall, Moyes could yet be presented with the chance to land one of Europe’s most experienced centre-forwards before the transfer window closes.
